In the mid 90’s when the Internet boom had really begun, I wanted to get Visions In Light on line. I was immediately fascinated with the very idea of the Internet. The words E-mail, HTML, .GIFs and .JPEGs quickly became household words in the office.

Fortunately, I have a friend (Sid Jaffee) who was a key developer at a significant web development company by the name of World Site Networks, who, at the time, was providing web hosting services to many new Dot.COMers and other strategic players including major motion picture companies and banking facilities. I received an invaluable education from the inside out and soon became very involved in development and creating Graphic User Interfaces (GUI) for new Web bound clients.

I quickly realized that I was armed with vital information that many new web-ready clients were not privy to. I found that many newcomers were getting shafted left and right by Web Development companies offering new and unfamiliar services. For example, letting you register a domain name on-line and not informing you that if your name isn't the Administrative Contact on the form, you really don't own your domain name, THEY DO. The list is long my friends.

I found that Web Site “Design” was being offered and executed by Coders and Web Programmers. This is like going to a Design Firm to build your company’s branding and marketing essentials for the world to see and your designer is the guy who maintains the development companies' computer system. Things are a little different now, thank goodness.

What does a web programmer know about your Lighting or Special Event business? Nothing… In addition, I wish I had a dime for every time I heard the following. “My little cousin Johnny makes web pages, why do I need to hire you?” My answer to that is simple… Does Johnny create your organizations’ branding and marketing strategies? It really needs to be looked at in the same light. It’s a balancing act between artist and programmer. After all, this is your face to the world.
